This is Reagan, age almost 7 months, and Heather. Reagan is just starting to be a little wary of strangers, but she took to us pretty quickly last night. Other than throwing up on me...twice...we hit it off really well.
What we can learn about making friends from Reagan:
1.) Smile a lot at your victim.
2.) Make eye contact.
3.) Wear cute clothes.
4.) Drooling is optional.
The friend-making process continues as we get older. See Exhibit B:
This is some of a group of young people at Operation Cooperation at Cove Valley Christian Camp this weekend. It is a time for counselor wanna-be's to get together as campers to learn a few things about themselves, each other, and God.
This is Amy (in the gray giraffe-spotted hoodie)
Remember Exhibit B?
Making friends at age 15 is a little trickier than when you are 6 months old. For one thing, looking cute doesn't work quite the same as it did when you were a baby. And because you know more about how people think, you tend to be more reserved and shy. At least Amy is.
And that's okay.
Cause that's how God made her. She may be quiet at first...but just wait until you get to know her better.
Here's what we can learn about making friends from Amy:
1.) Smile a lot.
2.) Make eye contact.
3.) Don't be afraid to make the first move to say "hello".
4.) Drooling is not optional. (Don't do it!)
So, there you have it, sweet and simple. Making new friends can be uncomfortable, it makes you vulnerable, but having no friends is way more uncomfortable and life would be unbearable without them.
One last piece of advice: Don't spit up on people that you've just met. Reagan can get away with it only because she's a baby. Just saying.
Love,
Dianne
